Cable television will be transmitted completely digitally in future. The switchover has already taken place successfully in the first federal states. Now FABnet and Vodafone in Flensburg and the surrounding area are also due to switch over.

The switch to purely digital distribution of TV signals not only means improved picture quality, but also creates capacity for the further expansion of program offerings. It is also the basis for the further development of additional digital services via your TV connection. Switching to digital cable TV is much easier than you think!

Who is affected?

All FAB tenants and owners/tenants with a cable connection with Vodafone (formerly Kabel Deutschland) who currently watch analog "television". Do the self-test. You watch analog if

  • You currently "only" have 34 TV channels
  • Your television does not have an integrated cable receiver (DVB-C) and no cable receiver is used.

You can check the operating instructions of your TV set to see whether it has an integrated receiver or ask the manufacturer's customer service for advice. Alternative indications are a DVB-C sticker on the TV set, the reception of more than 100 programs or the age of the TV set (less than 4 years old). If you have a classic tube TV at home, you usually watch analog, unless you use an external receiver. Anyone who already receives channels such as "ZDFinfo" or "Tagesschau24" has long since arrived in digital television.

What will change for customers?

The quality of TV and radio will improve compared to the analog signal. In addition, the number of TV and radio stations increases for everyone. Check whether your TV is suitable for digital television! If your TV set is suitable for digital reception (integrated or external cable receiver), a channel scan is sufficient - please note that this is carried out via the digital search function. If you do not have a cable receiver, you will need to purchase a suitable receiver or invest in a new television. Nowadays, it is common practice for televisions to be equipped with the appropriate receiver.

Do the changes cost money?

The changes only cost money if a new television is necessary or if a cable receiver (usually available in shops from as little as 30 euros) has to be purchased. Beyond that, the switchover is free of charge for you.

When will the switch-off take place?

The switch-off in the FAB network area will take place on December 31, 2018. Vodafone will switch over its connections between November 2018 and March 2019. Please make sure that you have made the appropriate arrangements on the day of the switchover, otherwise you will be left out in the cold
