On June 28, Flensburger Arbeiter-Bauverein (FAB) hosted the popular climate pact excursions.
Led by Michael Kohnagel and Andreas Mundt (both FAB board members), the company, which was founded in 1878, presented its activities with regard to energy-efficient building renovations. The participants were first given an insight into the principles of the building association before visiting the properties. As part of his introduction, Michael Kohnagel explained the background to the building association: "The FAB serves to promote its members and provide good and safe living space." The FAB focuses on neighborly structures and energy-saving construction and living. The integration of refugees also plays a role here. Climate protection is also at the top of the agenda.
The company is constantly striving to reduce CO2 emissions through the use of innovative and renewable energy systems. This approach is evident both on a small scale - energy-efficient pumps and LED lamps with presence detectors have been installed in the corridors - and on a large scale in the comprehensive refurbishment of the existing buildings. The FAB's concept also includes ongoing information for residents about the energy-efficient refurbishment measures. It usually takes up to three years for the planned savings to materialize. The Sandberg/ Schulze-Delitzsch-Straße residential complex is one of the completed refurbishment projects. Here, the windows were replaced, the cladding on the front of the building was peeled off and the joints were renovated instead of thermally insulated. The roof was also insulated and re-roofed. The rear of the building was fully insulated with a thermal insulation system. A total of 1.1 million euros was invested. As the FAB attaches great importance to supporting its members, the costs were largely not passed on to the tenants. The refurbishment thus benefited both the tenants and the climate. In figures: Before the refurbishment, the monthly cold service charges amounted to 1.42 euros/m2 and the heating costs to 0.84 euros/m2 Today, the cold service charges amount to 1.55 euros/m2 and the heating costs to 0.69 euros/m2. In comparison, this represents a saving of 26 % in energy consumption and a saving of 18 % in heating costs. Without the refurbishment, heating costs would now amount to 1.14 euros/m2 .
Flensburger Arbeiter-Bauverein also attaches great importance to energy-efficient living and climate protection in its new buildings. For example, an "Efficiency House KFW 70" was built in Kanzleistraße. Another property is currently being planned: 41 residential units are to be built in a "KFW 55 house" on Sandberg, which will have even lower energy requirements than the recently completed building complex on Kanzleistraße. All in all, the Climate Pact member gave the excursion participants an interesting and exemplary insight into energy-efficient and ecological construction methods.
