The heating season begins with the fall season. Here you can find out how neither heating bills nor mould can spoil the most pleasant time of the year
Saving money made easy According to the Federal Environment Agency, household heating is responsible for 70 percent of energy consumption. To keep costs from skyrocketing in the truest sense of the word, heat insulation measures during construction and regular maintenance of the heating system are of course essential. But even as a tenant, you can reduce heating consumption with a few simple tips and tricks. This not only keeps costs down, but also limits CO2 emissions. Even simple steps such as closing curtains in the evening can reduce heat loss. Meanwhile, to ensure that the warm heating air can spread freely throughout the living space, it is important to ensure that curtains, furniture and other household items do not cover the radiators.
Instead of turning up the heating after a long walk in the woods, you should also wear thick socks. Because every degree increases the heating bill. The recommended room temperature in the living area is 20 °C and can be lowered by 5 °C at night. Meanwhile, 17 °C is sufficient in the bedroom. The temperature can be lowered by a few more degrees during longer periods of absence. However, the radiators should not be turned off completely, as a lot of heat is lost due to high temperature fluctuations.
So mold doesn't stand a chanceCorrect heating is not only good for your wallet - it also has a significant impact on the living environment. Heating and regular ventilation are particularly important in the cold season to avoid excessive humidity, which is generated in everyday life by breathing, cooking and showering, among other things. This is because mold can develop if it is damp for long periods. Ventilating several times a day - i.e. opening the window fully for a few minutes - is the most energy-efficient way of airing your home and also ensures good air quality. However, you should resist the temptation to heat from one room to another by opening the doors - for example, to "reuse" the heat instead of ventilating it out. This is because there is a risk of damp air condensing on the walls. Also make sure that the furniture is not placed directly against the outside walls. Just a few centimetres away can make all the difference and prevent mould from forming behind your favorite chest of drawers.
