On June 6, the "24-hour electricity supplier change" came into force across Germany. Since then, customers have been able to switch their electricity supplier within just one working day and benefit from the increased flexibility of the accelerated process. The background to this is an EU directive that aims to promote competition between suppliers and thus make the energy market more consumer-friendly. We provide you with a brief overview of all the relevant changes associated with the implementation of the directive.
No retroactive notifications
From now on, the start and end of an electricity contract can only be in the future and can no longer be applied for retrospectively.
Notification period for relocations
To give suppliers enough time to process your move, you should observe the 14-day notification period before you move.
MaLo-ID
Instead of your electricity meter number, all suppliers will now be asked for your market location identification number (MaLo-ID) during the registration process. This is an eleven-digit number that you can find on your bill or in the customer portal.
Gas, water and district heating
These new regulations do not apply to these cost items for the time being.
