Rising utility costs have unfortunately also become a reality in Flensburg - it is difficult to say whether and when prices will calm down. But if you follow the energy-saving tips from Stadtwerke Flensburg, you can make significant savings.
Never leave appliances in stand-by mode, switch off the lights in empty rooms and always put the lid on the pan when cooking - many of us already implement some energy-saving tips automatically. The following tricks are also useful:
Heat correctly
Only heat used rooms as required, e.g. in the morning and evening. The ideal room temperature is 21 °C - every degree less reduces heating energy consumption by up to six percent. Stadtwerke Flensburg recommends a temperature of 18 °C in the kitchen, 23 °C in the bathroom and 16 °C in the bedroom.
However, unused rooms should not be allowed to cool down, but should be heated to 15 °C. It is also worth ventilating radiators regularly: air in the pipes can cost 15 percent more energy. In winter, closed shutters also ensure that the heat stays in the house.
Electricity consumption in the kitchen
Kitchen appliances consume a lot of energy and there is potential for savings here too. For example, make sure you defrost the fridge regularly and do not defrost frozen food in the microwave. When preparing hot food, use the residual heat and simply switch off the oven five to ten minutes earlier when cooking potatoes. And the Sunday rolls? It's best not to bake them in the oven, but with an attachment on the toaster - this saves up to 70 percent energy. Incidentally, dirty dishes should be washed in the dishwasher rather than by hand, as this saves much more water. Also, only select the intensive program for heavily soiled dishes. Of course, the appliance should be fully loaded for every wash cycle.
Television and light
New purchases are not always a solution. However, if you have a plasma TV, you should consider a more energy-efficient alternative. A modern LED TV only needs around 50 watts, which is ten times less than older models. An upgrade is also worthwhile when it comes to lighting: LED lamps promise a longer service life and save more electricity than energy-saving lamps.
Small effort - big effect
With just a few tricks, you can achieve a not uninteresting total saving that will have a positive impact on your utility bill. In most cases, this is quite simple. Did you know, for example, that the tumble dryer is one of the biggest electricity guzzlers in the household? It is therefore better to dry your laundry outside in the air if possible.
