A wonderful Christmas scent fills our nostrils when we visit the AWO staff at the FAB meeting center on Schlagbaumweg. The four colleagues Karla Andres, Birgit Stutzke, Astrid Jessen and Gisela Jodat are busy baking fresh and delicious Christmas cookies for all the tenants with lots of love.
Especially now in this dark time of year, many tenants feel lonely and long for some distraction. However, due to the second lockdown in the current coronavirus crisis, all events at Schlagbaumweg have had to be canceled at the moment. These are particularly important for the tenants and provide them with small rays of hope in their everyday lives.
Karla Andres explains: "At the moment, we don't have much contact with the tenants, most of them call if they have a request. For birthdays, I contact them by phone. We are proud of all our tenants for being so supportive of the current situation and for showing consideration for each other and keeping their distance." Karla Andres and her colleagues are already looking forward to meeting up in 2021 and getting back to a bit of normality.
Jürgen Stickel, outpatient care service manager at AWO Servicehaus Sandberg, responsible for the meeting place at Schlagbaumweg 1-3, is very pleased about this valuable and important gesture in these troubled times: "The tenants are particularly close to my heart and Mrs. Schmidt-Braess, responsible for the social and cultural work at Sandberg, and I thought together about what we could do for them." This gave rise to the wonderful idea of baking cookies for all the tenants of the facility for Advent. Four different types of cookies were carefully handmade and packed in transparent cellophane bags. On Friday, November 27 in the early afternoon, all tenants living in Schlagbaumweg were personally presented with a bag of cookies by their colleagues - with a mask and distance, of course.
